RCPRO Mini Warbird Racing - New Proposal
The following is a description of the porposed event and the rules that are to be followed in conducting RCPRO Mini Warbird Races.
Pilot Qualifications
Pilots must show proof of being current members of the AMA.
Unsportsmanlike conduct by a pilot, caller, or crewmember is grounds for the pilot’s disqualification from the event.
Scale Requirements
The only models qualified to be entered in a RCPRO Mini Warbird event must be scale models replicating heavier than air, fixed wing,
propeller driven, man carrying, military aircraft that were in production after January 1, 1937,
or scale models of non-military aircraft that have raced in the unlimited category of the Reno or Mojave Air Races
or in an unlimited air race affiliated with the Unlimited Air Racing Association.
To "have raced" means that the aircraft must have crossed the starting line while participating in an official heat.
Civilian markings, paint schemes, and modifications to military aircraft are allowed.
Civilian aircraft that were not designed for, but can be documented and were used by the military, will be allowed.
All models must have a full fuselage, no profiles allowed.
If you have any question as to whether your particular airframe will qualify for warbird racing,
please contact the Contest Director prior bringing it to the event.
Airframe Specifications
- The minimum wingspan will be 35 inches.
- The minimum wing area will be 250 square inches.
- The minimum fuselage width shall be 2.25".
- The minimum height of the fuselage at some point other than at the fin/rudder shall be 5".
- Retractable landing gear is allowed and may be retracted during racing.
- ARF, BNF, RTF, and modeler built aircraft are allowed.
- Gyro or assisted flight stability via radio components is allowed.
- The minimum weight of the ready to fly aircraft will be 24 ounces.
Propulsion System
- Thrust must be provided by an electric motor with a 2 to 4 blade propeller.
- The motor shall be of the outrunner brushless type.
- The battery must be of the 3 cell LiPo type and may not weigh more than 220 grams with all wires and connectors.
- The ESC may be of any type or brand.
- The propeller may be of any AMA legal type of any size and may be modified and balanced.
Racing Course
The course used will be either a 2 pole or 3 pole course with a 1 lap distance of 0.15 mile.
Ten laps will be flown per heat for a total distance of 1.5 miles.
For a two pole course, the pylons will be 396 feet apart.
For a three pole course, the distance from #1 to #2 and #1 to #3 will be 346 feet, with 100 feet between #2 and #3.
